Mixed Media artist Patrick Maisano envisions a world of contradiction where innocence meets maturity and imagery meets text. It is an existence of Kings and High Priests intermixed with warped creatures and innocuous beasts; the adult imagination at its finest. Maisano's world, however unsullied it may seem, is far more advanced than any child-like state of mind. An air of sophistication is found within the use of graphic symbols and words; characters in which only the educated mind can decipher. Maisano's work is a reminder of the lack of freedom that an adult brain contains. His art allows us to reminisce over the carefree, charming life we once had, fabricated with fire breathing dragons and talking blue cats. Our souls become lost within Maisano's beautiful and enchanting sceneries where we find ourselves believing in two-headed birds. "I paint in an attempt to create a beautiful object; an object that resonates with some quality of soul or magic. The scribe is aware that the subject of his record is sacred and therefore he labors willfully to infuse his work with beauty. I share this same willfulness in creating a
painting," Artist Patrick Maisano.
"Maisano finds the symbiotic relationship between myth and symbolism. His art is strong and it is edgy. Through imaginary figures, he creates a spellbinding sense of contradiction that leads to the periphery of unexplainable darkness and to an exhilarating sense of light. Maisano's characters have an Alice in Wonderland appeal, but with a contemporary intent. His art awakens the viewer to a higher state of consciousness, probing and poking deeper and deeper into the individual viewer's imagination," Art Critic, Roberta Carasso.
Rachael McCampbell paints with an energy and fervor that is depicted through her paintings. There is a sense of present movement portrayed on each canvas causing the viewer to feel as though they are part of the experience where wind blows through your hair as a parade of wild horses gallop on by. "The content of my artwork derives from my respect for humankind, nature and the thread of energy that unites all of life. I explore landscapes, birdscapes, architecture, animals, and the human figure. My interest in drawing also plays into my paintings. As I like to show the "artist's hand," I often work backwards, drawing on top of a finished painting and exposing the line work that provided the painting's original armature," Artist Rachael McCampbell.
Rachael's work may be wild in subject matter and movement, however, there is a sense of tranquility and peace found with the use of calming colors and cool tones. Wild horses graze the canvas, serenely drinking from a pool of water. Graceful birds in full flight soar overhead while swans below sit warmly nuzzled against one another. They are landscapes of natural beauty; the wild Kingdom's purest essence.
"The dream state McCampbell's paintings imply maintains in those jumps in hue and tone that occur between panels. Such shifts suggest changes in weather, changes that normally occur in time rather than, as here, in space. But in dreams weather can reverse itself in an instant, storm turn to calm, overcast skies suddenly clear of all turbulence, even day turn to night on a dime. There are places in the world where this can happen occasionally (Los Angeles being one of them), but few of us live where it can be a daily occurrence the way it is in McCampbell's images. Indeed, her pictures seem to propose that one place can have two climates at once, and can be experienced at two temperatures simultaneously. Again, only in dreams, and in memory's compressive fugue," Art Critic, Peter Frank.
