“HERSTORY" by Jana Cruder, 2021
Jana Cruder’s latest fine art photographic series HERSTORY is a visual array of candied jewel colored scenes looking into complexities around the concept of feminism and its patriarchal hierarchy of cultural programming.
In this series she is entering her sexual prime and her biological clock is ticking. We find our main character exploring liberation from cultural norms. Earning her own money, feeling torn between corruption of exploitation, racism and the capitalistic symbols of happiness and feeling the pull of the expected domestic life. Her explorations into alternate realities and psychedelics open her, her friends and lovers to new possibilities beyond what she was told to want. HERSTORY, is set in the 1970s an era not unlike today - an era of awareness to the symbiotic relationship of existence.
Becoming more aware of the inner-workings of the MANufactured world shaping around her she feels the call of being active in the world clashing with pull of motherhood.
Deeper and darker undertones and sub texts of this series play out amongst candy colored jolly rancher like scenes.
